Vacation Part I - Camping and Mountains

Early June we left the confines of our air conditioned home, separate bedrooms, and very routine life to take a family trip to Colorado.

I brought all the essentials for the trip... princess fruit snacks, cheesy romance novel, powered sugar donuts, coloring books, lots of DVDs, sticker books, suckers, Mt. Dew for the driver, etc.

We left Thursday night and drove to Minneapolis to stay with Grandma and Papa Willoughby.

Friday morning we drove 3 hours further west to Weber lake where we spent the day at the Long Family Reunion.

The girls played all afternoon in their pink and purple princess tent... can't believe I failed to get a picture of them in it.  Our littlest camper was a hot dirty mess, but having so much fun.

After several failed tries, we finally managed to get a good pic of the girls with Great Grandma Long.  Grandma also surprised us with a beautiful blue blanket she had knit for Baby Crew... we can't wait to use it!  Crew will be the 65th great grandchild, which is just amazing.

Not sure I can say we were officially "roughing it" since Grandma and Papa's camper had AC and satellite TV.  Dora was only a few clicks away to make cranky girls happy again!

This is what happens with the girls skip nap... pure silliness.

After a night of too much excitement to go to sleep in Grandma and Papa's camper... Q kept poking me in the eye saying, "Mommy has bown (brown) eyes, Cincy has boo (blue) eyes" with H pretending to be an animal rescuer, "oh no Baby Jaguar, Harper will save you... grab my hand, etc".  We awoke at the crack of dawn and tried to keep the girls as quite as possible with donuts and Dora.

Saturday morning we loaded up and started our trip to Colorado.  Grandma surprised the girls with some cool new toys... thank you Grandma!!! They helped keep the girls occupied on the 5 hour drive.

I thought we would be "healthy" and stop at Subway for lunch instead of McDonalds.  A bag of Dorritos for each girl is healthy right?

Q took a nap on the way to Colorado Springs, but H didn't fall asleep until we were 1 minute away from our destination.  That how life works sometimes, and on vacation I'm finding you just role with it.

Will's dear college friends Jami and Scott were gracious enough to host us for a few days.  They are amazing people and we had such a great time catching up while the girls instantly were head over heels for their adorable little guys.

Our first night, after a delicious home cooked Mexican dinner, we traveled to nearby Monument lake to take in the gorgeous Colorado outdoors.  The girls loved canoeing, each insisting they needed their own paddle.

"Oh no... I dropped it" H shouted.  I looked back to see her paddle floating behind the boat.  Quick reverse paddle by Mom and Dad, and the paddle was saved.

Colorado is just amazing, the lake was so clear, and the mountains just beautiful.

The kiddos had a great time splashing in water, probably much to the dismay of folks out there fishing.

Rest of our trip to come... just need to find more free time in the day to catch up on blogging:)
